Vaccine storage refrigerators for health ministry

The Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) has provided 10 electric and kerosene vaccine storage refrigerators to the health ministry.

The refrigerators were handed over by Nakae Noguchi, a short-term JICA expert for Pharmaceutical Management, to the health officials at a small ceremony at the Medical Supply Depot in Phuentsholing yesterday morning.

The refrigerators can also be run by kerosene. Ministry officials said it will be distributed to remote Basic Health Units (BHUs) where there is no power supply and also to the BHUs where the vaccine storage refrigerators are out of order. Each refrigerator costs Nu. 100,000.

JICA is providing the refrigerators as part of its assistance to health ministry’s Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI).

JICA has been supporting the EPI programme since 1995.
