Green transport initiatives

Over 500 taxi and bus drivers in the capital have been distributed green bags under the project called, ‘Green Transport Initiatives’.

The bags are to be used by the drivers to collect wastes, they and their passengers, produce while travelling.

The project was launched by the agriculture and forests minister Dr. Pema Gyamtsho. During the launch, Lyonpo said waste in general has negative impact on environment, health and economy. He thus encouraged all the drivers to create awareness among the passengers about the use of bags in proper ways.

The waste will be collected in three parking areas located in Lungtenzampa, BOD parking and city bus parking. The wastes will be then collected by the Thromde office.

Those who collect the highest amount of waste will be awarded every year, according to the minister.
