Landslide sweeps away a temporary store of Dobji Dzong

A landslide last night swept away a temporary store of the Dobji Dzong in Paro along with a retention wall adjacent to its main tower. The store housed masks, dresses, some furniture, and kitchen utensils.

Sources say the recent earthquake and incessant rainfall in the past few days had loosened the soil in the area. However, an assessment by a team of experts from Thimphu, district administration and RBP found the dzong’s foundation is intact and no other damages reported.

The Dogar gup said, as an immediate intervention, the damaged retention wall be reconstructed.  The Dobji Dzong, built in 1531, is considered one of the first dzongs in the country.
