Flood cuts Gasa from the rest

(Update) Gasa still remains cut off from the rest of the country following last Thursday’s flash flood. The works are underway to clear the highway between Gasa and Punakha which was blocked after the flood.

The Gasa Dzongda, Sonam Jigme, said according to the reports from the Department of Roads, it would take about two months to open the road to traffic. “It is even worse with no power supply,” he said.  Power lines were damaged and it is expected to take about two weeks to restore power supply.

The flash flood on Thursday morning washed away part of sub-high way between Punakha-Gasa and damaged several houses and temporary makeshift huts.

Two permanent Bridges between Phuntshogang and Damji and a bazam were also washed away. About 15 acres of paddy fields and five acres of dry land were also damaged.
