Man allegedly stabbed to death due to extramarital affairs, Wangdue Phodrang

A 41-year-old man is under custody for alleged voluntary manslaughter in Wangdue Phodrang. The incident took place on February 21 at the labour camp of the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong Reconstruction Project at Samthang. The suspect from Tsholingkhar in Tsirang was arrested from the Khuruthang Police Checkpoint in Punakha while he was returning to his place after the incident. His clothes were covered in blood.

According to a source, the suspect allegedly stabbed a 58-year-old man working at the Dzong Reconstruction Project to death. The incident reportedly occurred due to extramarital affairs. Police have also detained the suspect’s wife for interrogation. The deceased was from Kilkhorthang in Tsirang and sources say he used to visit the suspect’s house frequently with the suspect’s wife claiming them as a relative.

As per the information, the suspect went to check on his wife at the deceased’s house in Samthang, as his wife did not return home even after nightfall. The suspect allegedly forced open the door of the deceased and found the two inside the house together.

Police found the suspect’s wife under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and she was detained the next day.

The suspect returned to his place in Khuruthang after the incident on foot and allegedly confessed to the crime when he was questioned by the police at the Khuruthang Checkpoint. He was then arrested and handed over to Wangdue Phodrang Police station as per the jurisdiction of crime for investigation.

The suspect is a private employee. The case is being investigated.
