100 community centres by next month

By next month, 77 community centres will be functional, bringing the number of the centres to 100. The first 23 community centres were launched in December last year, as a pilot project.

The government aims to establish 205 centres in all the Gewogs.

Community centres will provide the people easy and fast access to services through the use of information and communication technology. It will offer offline services like printing, lamination, scanning and photocopying among others.  There are plans to connect the centres with fibre optic.  With the net connection the centres will be able to provide the people the Government to citizen services (G2C) like security clearance and forest clearance.

Bhutan Postal Corporation will run community centres as a vendor. The CEO of the Bhutan Postal Corporation, Tseten Geltsen, says they will operate and manage the centres by charging nominal fees for the services. The Bhutan Postal Corporation has already recruited 77 youth as operators in the centres.

Eighty Five community centers will be established by March next year. The last remaining 20 centres will be established in the 11th Five Year Plan.
