First phase of unlocking in North Thimphu and Paro from tomorrow

The first phase of unlocking the lockdown in Thimphu will begin from tomorrow. But it is only for the residents of North Thimphu as none of the samples collected from the region during the mass screening tested positive for coronavirus.  

The residents of the North Thimphu will be allowed to move within the northern region without movement card beginning tomorrow. Shops selling essentials in the region will also be allowed to resume business until 5 pm.

North Thimphu is now declared as a yellow zone, as not a single person tested positive. Close to 5,500 individuals in the region were tested during the mass screening yesterday.

The Health Minister, Dechen Wangmo said restrictions will be relaxed in South Thimphu and other zones in the capital as well if no positive case is reported from the mass screening.

Close to 8,000 samples were collected from residents of South Thimphu today. The health ministry will be announcing the results tomorrow.

The capital city has been under lockdown for the last 28 days.

Similarly, restrictions will be eased in Paro from tomorrow. Mass testing in the district began from yesterday, where some 2,700 samples were tested. And none of them tested positive. Paro has been under lockdown for the last 26 days.

Meanwhile, five people tested positive for coronavirus today. All are from Thimphu and are close contacts of the cases detected earlier. As of today, there are 288 active cases.

The country’s cumulative figure of the confirmed cases as of today stands at 842 of w hich more than 500 have recovered.
