Informal method of dispute resolution

The Alternative Dispute Resolution Bill of Bhutan 2011 was introduced in the National Council today. The Bill was introduced by the minister for economic affairs, Khandu Wangchuk.

While introducing the bill, Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk said, alternative dispute resolution as an informal method of resolving disputes has become an important fabric of Bhutanese society. Lyonpo also mentioned that the subject has also gained importance in the international arena.  “If we want to attract foreign entities to invest in Bhutan, it is important for the existence of a method of dispute resolution without having to go to courts”

The Bill was drafted by office of the Attorney General with the policy guidance from the government.
