A group from Zunglen in Monggar donates vegetables to religious institutions and Desuups

A group from Zunglen under Drepoong Gewog in Monggar donated two bolero pickup truckloads of vegetables to religious institutions and Desuups in the district on Friday. According to the group, it is a display of solidarity from their part as the nationwide lockdown leaves many people with limited access to vegetable supply.

The donation drive started from Kidekhar Lungtok Choki Gatshel Sherdra where there are more than a hundred monks and teachers residing. At this hour of the lockdown, they depend on vegetables distributed as per the system the district’s COVID-19 task force put in place.

Similarly, the group donated vegetables to Monggar Rabdhey. Following the lockdown, the Rabdhey is facing a shortage of vegetable.

“At the moment, the religious institutions are busy performing Kurim and there is hardly any interaction with outsiders. So, thinking they would be facing a shortage of vegetables, we decided to donate,” said Dawa Zangpo, the Coordinator.

The religious institutions acknowledged the contribution as it comes at a time when the monks are in summer retreat, known as Yarney.

Some bags of vegetables were also delivered to the Regional Desuung Office and a few other religious institutions in Gyalposhing and Kurizam.

“Desuups are benefitted when volunteers support us. There are many Desuups in our team and we run short of vegetables. So, donation like this is helpful,” acknowledged Kuenga, a Desuup in Monggar.

The volunteer group comprised teachers from Zunglen Primary School, farmers and, the chiwog tshogpa.
