New concrete bridge over Dungsamchhu in Samdrup Jongkhar gives joy to the locals

Plot owners and locals are happy with the completion of a new concrete bridge over the Dungsamchhu in Samdrup Jongkhar. The new bridge will benefit locals especially those carrying out construction works in the Local area plan 4 of the Thromde.

Earlier, without a proper bridge, transporting construction materials were a hassle.

Several construction works are currently ongoing at the Local Area Plan 4 of the Thromde. And many more are expected to start soon. But with the capacity of the Bailey bridge limited to only 24 tonnes, heavy vehicles carrying sand, bricks and other construction materials had to use the older, longer route.

However, with the new Concrete Bridge with 70-ton capacity now open, vehicles can drive straight into the local area plan 4

“Especially plot owners who are constructing buildings were having problems because heavy vehicles are not allowed to ply since the bridge was incomplete. Henceforth it will benefit all the construction works and the plot owners of LAP 4 and moreover it will reduce the distance of the highway from here to Trashiganag by almost a kilometre,” said Karma Sherab Tobgyal, the Samdrup Jongkhar Thrompon.

“Earlier with the Bailey Bridge, heavy vehicles were not allowed to ply and we had to drive all the way from up here, but now with this bridge, we are hoping that it will benefit us. We are hoping our business will not be affected like before,” added Nidup Dorji, Bricks and Sand Supplier at Samdrup Jongkhar.

The 30-metre long concrete bridge was constructed by the Construction Development Corporation Limited at a cost of almost Nu 37 M. There are more than 100 people who own plots in the LAP 4 area of the Thromde.
