BT launches Business Continuity Management System

Bhutan Telecom (BT) launched its Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) today. With the launch, the System will help to restore the telecommunication services at the time of disasters in the country.

BCMS will function as the software component for disaster resilient communication services. It is an important addition to the disaster-resilient mobile core network which was set up in Bumthang last year. The two projects will help to address issues and mitigate risks to a great extent in times of disasters.

At the launch, the Minister for Information and Communications, Karma Donnen Wangdi said, “With the BCMS, BT will be able to mitigate potential risks during normal operation and implement rapid restoration of essential communication services during times of major disasters. It would facilitate emergency rescue and restoration works of the government. Therefore, this BCMS project will not only benefit BT as the direct recipients of the assistance through the JICA Technical cooperation program but it will also benefit the entire country as a whole.”

The Technical Director of BT, Karma Tshewang said, “We really do not know when the disaster might strike. So to be able to continue giving our services during disasters, the system will be able to help to restore our services and help the government in rescue efforts as well.”

The system was implemented with assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
