Addressing Traffic Congestion in the capital

The Road Safety and Transport Authority has added 10 more buses to the capital’s existing fleet of city buses in a move to ease traffic congestion. Two private transport operators are arranging the additional buses.

The number is being increased to discourage the use of private vehicle and to encourage people to use public transport, according to the Road safety and Transport Authority. It is also expected to help address the present shortage of buses.

The move will not only help to ease traffic congestion, but protect the environment with the decrease in the number of vehicles, said the Director of the Authority at a press conference on Wednesday. The Director also raised concern over the indiscriminate import of vehicles every year. Today, there are about 64,000 vehicles in the country.

Some of the problems associated with increasing number of vehicles are traffic congestion, parking and accidents.
