Bhalujhora Bridge construction to complete by May this year

The construction of a 123-meter long bridge over Bhalujhora River in Pasakha under Chhukha is expected to complete by May this year, much to the relief of the residents.

Bhalujhora Bridge is their lifeline that links Pasakha industrial estate and Phuentshogling.

However, ever since the old bridge was partially damaged by the swollen river in 2016, the people had to cross the wrecked bridge. Heavy vehicles have to drive through the swollen river and often get stuck in the water.

“We are happy that the bridge is about to be complete. With a new bridge, we will be able to reach our children to school without any problem,” Nima Wangchuk, a resident, said.

“Earlier, during monsoon, it was difficult to cross the damaged bridge. But now we are looking forward to the completion of the new bridge,” Saraswati Gurung, another resident, said.

After a private company with a joint venture failed to construct a bridge, the Construction Development Corporation Limited (CDCL) took up the task of constructing the bridge last year.

The bridge which cost nearly Nu 80 M is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The new bridge is being constructed next to the present bridge.
