Volunteers clean Wangchhu to observe world water day

To observe the world water day, more than 400 volunteers from different organisations came together to clean Wangchhu in Thimphu.  

The volunteers were divided into six groups. Starting from Dechen Zam till Lungtenzampa, they cleaned the Wangchhu stretch which was clogged with different kind of wastes.

“This Day provides us with an opportunity to draw attention to the significance of water sources in our country and take actions, awareness and advocacy through various campaigns,” Jigchen Lhazom Norbu, the Assistant  Environment Officer of NEC said.

World Water Day is observed on March 22. This year, the day was observed globally on the theme ‘Water for all Living, No one behind.’

As part of the day, an art competition was conducted amongst schools in Thimphu Thromde to raise awareness on water. An exhibition on different products made from the wastes was also displayed.

The National Environment Commission Secretariat in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund Bhutan, Royal Society for Protection of Nature and Thimphu Thromde organized the event.
