High Court convicts six men for murder

The High Court sentenced six men from four years to life imprisonment for the murder of a 26-year-old man. The judgement passed yesterday also ordered the two main convicts to pay a compensation of Nu 492,875 to the deceased’s father within one month from the date of judgement.

Of the six convicts, three are Indian nationals.

Two main convicts, a 19-year-old man from Tsirang and a 22-year-old man from Siliguri in India have been sentenced to life imprisonment. As per the judgement, one of them hit the victim with a knife on the head. The other stabbed the deceased several times.

Another 21-year-old man from Jaigaon in India has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for accomplice to murder.

Similarly, a 28-year-old man from Chhukha and a 30-year-old man from Alipurduar in India have been sentenced to nine years each in prison for solicitation of murder.

The High Court also sentenced a 22-year-man from Sarpang to four years in prison for hindering prosecution and possession of cannabis and its derivates. The man had intentionally given money to two convicts while they were hiding in Nepal.

The incident occurred in April 2017 in Hasimara in India.

The judgement says five of the convicts took the deceased towards Hasimara on the pretext of hiring his vehicle and committed the crime in a forest there. According to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), the victim’s body was recovered about two weeks after the incident.

Meanwhile, the vehicle was seized at Koshi in Nepal by the Nepalese police before it could be sold.
