GoI commits Rs 45bn to Bhutan for 12th FYP

The Government of India (GoI) committed Rs 45 bn to Bhutan for the 12th Five-Year-Plan (FYP).

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this while meeting with Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering in New Delhi on Friday.

Lyonchhen was accorded a grand welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan.  He was received by Prime Minister Modi and given a guard of honour.

Prime Minister Modi congratulated his Bhutanese counterpart for winning the third general election, which was held on 18 October this year.

The two prime ministers discussed various bilateral issues.

Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering also invited the Indian Prime Minister to grace the inaugural ceremony of Mangdechhu Hydropower Plant in Bhutan next year.

Prime Minister also laid wreath at the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat in New Delhi.

During the visit, Lyonchen met with the Indian President, Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, and few other cabinet ministers.

Prime Minister also met with president of Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi.

Prime Minister was on a three-day official visit to India at the invitation of the Indian Prime Minister. Prime Minister flew back to the country yesterday. This was his first foreign visit after assuming the office.
