Assam quake tremors shake Bhutan

An earthquake, measuring 5.3 magnitude on the Richter scale, rocked the Indian State of Assam this morning.

The epicentre was in Kokrajhar and tremors from it was felt in Bhutan as well.

According to the United States Geological Survey website, Bhutanese areas in between Phuentshogling and Gelegphu felt moderate tremors, while the rest of the country felt light to weak tremors.

Strong tremors were also felt across India’s Northeast as well as in parts of West Bengal, Bihar and Bangladesh.

No damage to properties or loss of life were reported in the country, confirmed the Department of Disaster Management.
