Two women convicted of computer pornography

The Monggar District Court has convicted two women of computer pornography. One of them was sentenced to one year in prison and the other to six months.

The women are from Drepoong and can pay in lieu of prison term.

In April last year, the two women had taken picture of another woman’s bottom using their mobile phone camera and shared it on the social media, WeChat.

The victim was asleep when the two women took the picture. She reported the matter to the police soon after she learned about it.

The court has also ordered the convicts to pay a compensation of Nu 3,750 each to the victim.

The act of publishing and distributing obscene photographs or pictures on the computer or the internet constitute as an offence of computer pornography, according to the country’s penal code.

The misdemeanour offence is punishable by a prison term of one to three years.
