3 more taekwondo athletes eliminated from knockout stage

On the third day of the 18th Asian Games yesterday, three more Bhutanese taekwondo athletes were eliminated from the knockout stage.

Only three taekwondo athletes remain now from a team of eight members.

Meanwhile, Bhutan’s recurve archery team was ranked 19 out of 24 participating teams.

In the female category, Karma, was ranked 54th, while 21-year-old Sonam Dema was ranked 60th from among 68 female archers.

In the male category, Kinley Tshering was ranked 60th, while Nima Wangdi was ranked 67th and Lhamo Dorji 69th from among 79 participating archers.

A total of 24 Bhutanese athletes are in Jakarta, Indonesia to represent the country at the games. Bhutan is competing in archery, boxing, golf and taekwondo.

The Asian Games is a continental multi-sport event held every four years. Athletes from 44 other countries are taking part in this year’s game.

Bhutan has participated in the Asian Games since 1980.
