DPT declares its final three candidates

Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) declared its final three candidates today. With this, the party has finalized all its candidates from 47 constituencies.

59-year-old Thakur Singh Powdyel is the party’s candidate from Dophuchen_Tading Constituency in Samtse. He represented the party from the constituency in the first parliamentary elections in 2008 and became the first democratically elected education minister.

Before re-contesting this time, he served as the president in one of the private colleges in the country. He has a master’s degree in education.

Gembo Tshering, 52, will represent the party from Bardo_Trong Constituency in Zhemgang. He also contested in the 2013 elections but did not win. He worked as a director in one of the private firms. He has a master’s degree in horticulture.

The party’s candidate from Sombaykha Constituency in Haa is 41-year-old Tshewang Rinzin. He completed his degree in Bachelor of Commerce from Sherubtse College and worked as the party’s finance officer.

The party’s General Secretary, Sangay Phurba said the party is fully prepared and excited to contest in the third National Assembly elections.

“All our candidates come from good educational and diverse backgrounds such as health, agriculture, law and economics and business.  In terms of experiences, too, we have 16 candidates who have already served as a member of parliament.”
