RUB, ECU signs MoU to promote academic cooperation

The Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) and the Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Western Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Thimphu today. The MoU is to provide experiential learning opportunities and to promote scholarly cooperation between colleges of RUB and various schools of ECU.

It was signed between the Vice Chancellor of RUB, Nidup Dorji, and the Vice Chancellor of ECU, Professor Stephen Kenneth Chapman.

“We are looking forward to the joint research collaborations between the academics of ECU and RUB and also on how to develop the capacity of the two universities. For instance, the ECU academicians can come to RUB and work here and our university staff can go and work there,” Dr Phanchung from Department of Research and External Relations of RUB, said.

“We have great ambitions in terms of our collaborations. We want to align our schools with various colleges of RUB,” Professor Stephen Kenneth Chapman, the Vice Chancellor of ECU said.

The 12-member delegation led by ECU’s Vice-Chancellor also met with the presidents of RUB colleges and discussed about future academic collaborations, exchange programmes and research capacity building.

Meanwhile, to initiate the partnership between the two universities, RUB has facilitated 10 undergraduates’ students from ECU for a two-week short-term study aboard program in Bhutan.

They were placed in the faculty of nursing and public health under the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan.
