India celebrates 72nd Independence Day

India celebrated its 72nd Independence Day today. In Thimphu, the Indian community gathered at the India Embassy to observe the day.

The event began with the hoisting of the Indian National Flag. It was followed by the Indian Ambassador, Jaideep Sarkar, reading out the Indian President Ram Nath Kovind’s address to the nation.

Following the address, the Gyalpoi Zimpon offered Tashi Khadar to the Indian Ambassador on behalf of the Bhutanese government and the people.

The day holds great significance for the people of India. It was on this day in 1947 that India got freedom from the British rule and became an independent nation.

On the day, India and its people remember and pay tribute to the freedom fighters.
