Thimphu Police arrested three men, aged between 24 and 37, for theft of over 400 kilograms of Paris Polyphylla, locally known as Dochu Kewa, last Saturday.
The plant is used in traditional Chinese medicines. It used to cure fever, headache, wounds and burns among others.
The police say the suspects claiming to be buyers collected the roots worth over Nu 3.2 M from Motithang.
They told the owner to follow them to the bank from where they will make the payment but went missing.
The police arrested them after three days with the help of CCTV in the town.
