SAFF U-15 women’s championship begins tomorrow

Bhutan’s Under-15 women’s team is all set for the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-15 Women’s Championship.

The tournament will kick off tomorrow at the Changlimithang National Stadium with India taking on Sri Lanka.

At the pre-match press conference this afternoon, the Bhutanese head coach Sung Jae Lee said his team has been preparing for the tournament for over a month now. He is expecting the team to reach the semi-finals.

“If we reach the semi finals, I think the girls will have a better chance of winning the tournament.”

The defending champions, Bangladesh, are equally optimistic of claiming their second consecutive title.

“Our girls are prepared and we are confident. There are many good teams this time but we still hope to win the championship this year as well,” Golam, Bangladeshi Coach, said.

Six teams from South Asia region will take part in this year’s championship.

The Bhutanese team is placed in group A along with India and Sri Lanka. Bhutan will play its first match against Sri Lanka on August 11.

The tournament was first organised last year.
