DPT responds to PM on Lhengye Dhensa issue

The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) says what the prime minister said about their ministers in regard to the occupancy of the Lhengye Dhensa is not true.

At Meet the Press session on Monday, the prime minister had said the former ministers lived at the Lhengye Dhensa even after their term in office ended.

He had also said the Lhengye Dhensa was in a bad shape when it was handed to the current ministers in 2013 and that a lot of repair works had to be carried out.

Responding to that, the DPT yesterday clarified that the party had sought permission from the finance ministry to occupy the Lhengye Dhensa for three more months after their office term ended.

They also said a proper handing taking of the property was done with the Department of National Properties (DNP) with all necessary repair works carried out.

“We had handed over the Lhengye Dhensa in good condition and as per the government rules. There were people from DNP checking everything,” DPT’s Wangdi Norbu said.

“We occupied the residences for three additional months with due permission from the Ministry of Finance,” Opposition Leader Dr. Pema Gyamtsho said.

“We paid rents and made sure no property was damaged badly. Even the ones, which were slightly damaged, were repaired or replaced.  We also paid for water and electricity.”

The Opposition Leader added he has lived there since 2010 and that people are welcome to visit his residence to see for themselves the condition of his house.
