Goshing Gup suspended

The Goshing Gup of Zhemgang, Sangay Lethro, has been suspended for alleged involvement in corrupt practices.

The dzongkhag administration issued the suspension order today following a letter from the Department of Local Governance (DLG).

The DLG’s action came after it received a letter from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), asking it to consider the gup’s service suspension as per the ACC Act.

At present, the gup who is also the chairman of the Dzongkhag Tshogdu, is being prosecuted at Panbang Dungkhag Court for alleged misuse of public funds of about Nu 10.5 M from 2011-15.

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is charging the gup with 27 counts, including embezzlement, solicitation, fraudulent hiring scheme and official misconduct.
