Scholarship students commence study abroad

Due to the restrictions on international travel and closure of borders amid the pandemic, Bhutanese scholarships have long remained stuck. At times, students and parents were doubtful about the continuity of their studies. However, as the situation improves, the Department of Adult and Higher Education has started sending them to their respective colleges and universities.  

Inmates protest alleged brutality- Chamgang central jail

Accusing an officer-in-charge of the Chamgang central jail in Thimphu of brutal beatings, inmates have staged a protest last night. The video is making the rounds on social media. Police are denying the allegation.

NI-TAG expects to roll out the second dose of COVID vaccine for adolescents within this month

The National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NI-TAG) expects to roll out the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccines for the remaining adolescents aged 12 to 17 years within this month. Many parents have been sharing concerns with the interval between the two doses extending. They got the first dose in July end.

For better health services for senior citizens

From now on, senior citizens won’t have to wait in a queue to access health services in any of the health centres across the country. This becomes possible with the launch of ‘health service packages for elderly people’ by the health ministry on Friday, coinciding with the International Day for Older Persons.

Pension scheme under discussion for monks and nuns

A pension is a retirement income. It helps provide financial independence when you lose your main source of income after retirement. This is what the Central Monastic Body is planning to provide for its monks and nuns in their old age. Unlike civil servants, currently, they don't have a pension scheme. 

Bajo town gets a recreational park

People in Bajo town of Wangdue Phodrang now need not go around looking for a place to spend their free time or socialize with others. The newly opened recreational park is expected to cater to people of all ages. The park was constructed at a cost of more than Nu 20 M. 

Drastic drop in common cold cases last year

People falling sick to the common cold decreased significantly last year. As per the Annual Health Bulletin 2021, the number of cases dropped from 264,381 in 2019 to 148,429. It is the highest reduction in the last five years.

BPC to forward sexual harassment case to police

The Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC) is forwarding the alleged sexual harassment case to the police today. Following a board meeting yesterday, the management discovered strong prima facie evidence against one of its directors who was accused of sexual harassment. A 'prima facie evidence' is evidence good and sufficient enough to pursue a case.
