Indian Embassy offers its cricket field for the Women’s National Team to train in

More often than not, the growth of sports in the country is held back by the lack of facilities. The plight of cricket is no different to other sports. According to the Bhutan Cricket Council Board, without a proper training field, training for international cricket tournaments has always been a challenge. Currently, the women's national team is preparing for the upcoming ICC Women's Asia Qualifiers that will be held in Malaysia in November. However, this time the Indian Embassy stepped in to help the team with their preparations by offering its cricket field for a month-long training session, today in Thimphu.

Educating young minds on environment and climate change issues- UN Bhutan roadshow

Extreme weather events are an indicator of climate change and its impact. But it is not too late to act when it matters most. One way to do so is to educate young minds about the environment and climate change issues. The United Nations Office in Bhutan conducted a roadshow at the College of Natural Resources (CNR) for the last three days. The roadshow was to commemorate Bhutan’s 50th Anniversary as a member state to the United Nations. Bhutan became a member of the United Nations in 1971.

Selling onion at a loss: Dagana farmers

After waiting for almost two months, onion growers in Dagana finally got a market. The Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives recently made an arrangement with the vegetable vendors at the Centenary Farmers Market (CFM) in Thimphu. The vegetable vendors agreed to buy the spice at Nu 32 per kilogram. But the farmers are not happy with the price.

BOB Bhutan Premier League updates

In the ongoing BOB Bhutan Premier League, Thimphu City defeated Gomo FC 2-0 in Punakha today to keep the pressure on league leaders Paro FC. Gomo FC managed to hold the Cityzens to a goalless first half, but second-half strikes from Phuntsho Jigme and captain Tshering Dorji sealed the win for the visitors.

Shing-Nyer village in Ura to have clean and reliable drinking water, Bumthang

By the end of October this year, more than three hundred people of Shing-Nyer village in Ura Gewog of Bumthang will have a clean and reliable drinking water supply. This is because the recently launched De-Suung Water Project will connect the entire village with enough water taps from a new source located about six kilometres above the village.

Contract farming scheme benefits farmers in Dagana

Livestock farmers in Dagana are prospering thanks to the Bhutan Livestock Development Corporation’s contract farming scheme initiated in 2018. Today, around 34 piggery and poultry farmers in the district are collaborating with the corporation as contract farmers.

Boxing gaining popularity among youngsters

An old sport but a new trend – the interest of youth in boxing is growing in the country. Endorsed by the Bhutan Boxing Federation, the Druk Thimphu Boxing Club introduced a summer training camp on popular demand. More than 70 youth participated in a two-week-long training that ended today. It will now be held annually. 

People come together to manage their local Menchhu in Pema Gatshel

Natural springs or menchhus are quite popular in the country. Many people visit menchhus as it is believed to cure various diseases. In a few places, it has given people an opportunity to make earnings from its management. But in some, with no one to manage the hot spring, it has attracted bushes and hedges instead of visitors. And one such is Uri Menchu under Shumar Gewog in Pema Gatshel. The menchhu is more than a decade old.
