Prime Minister to go for the president’s campaign during the bye-election depending on the COVID situation

The Prime Minister, who is also the president of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT), decided to go for the president's campaign during the bye-election. According to the DNT party office, the date is yet to be confirmed as it will depend on the COVID-19 situation in the country.

Finance Minister introduces Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the Green Climate Fund at the National Council

Introducing the Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the Green Climate Fund to the National Council, the Finance Minister called on the house members to grant privileges and immunities to Green Climate Fund (GCF). The privileges and immunities agreement serves to protect the Fund's assets and ensure effective performance of the Fund's activities. Green Climate Fund is a fund established within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to assist developing countries to adapt and mitigate the impacts of climate change. Green Climate Fund is viewed as the world's largest climate action financier. 

RIGSS launches its 10th leadership course- “School Leaders Development Programme”, Tsirang

To enhance leadership capabilities and to offer a platform to contribute to the larger education reforms envisioned by His Majesty The King, the Royal Institute for Governance and Strategic Studies launched its tenth leadership course in Tsirang, yesterday. The leadership training titled “School Leaders Development Programme” is exclusively for school principals across the country. The institute is providing the course at the Royal Audit Authority’s Professional Development Centre in Tsirang due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and quarantine requirements in Phuentshogling, and also because the institute in Phuentshogling is being used as the COVID-19 control centre since the beginning of the pandemic. Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering graced the launching ceremony.

Finance Minister proposes uniform 10 % customs duty on all goods imported from third countries

The Finance Minister proposed introducing a uniform 10 % customs duty on all goods imported from third countries. The standard tariff rate according to the Finance Minister will create an open economy with diversified products, giving Bhutanese a comparative cost advantage. Lyonpo introduced the Customs (Amendment) Bill of Bhutan 2021 to the National Assembly, today.

Bringing about uniform rules and regulation among the armed forces, RBP Amendment Bill

The National Assembly today, discussed the need to bring about uniform rules and regulation among the armed forces in the country. The member in charge of the Bill proposed new sections in the Bill to treat Royal Bhutan Police like the Royal Bhutan Army and the Royal Body Guard. The representative of the Home and Cultural Affairs Minister, Dr Tandi Dorji introduced the RBP Amendment Bill.

Finance Minister proposed deferring implementation of the GST by one year

The Finance Minister proposed deferring implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) by one year at the National Assembly today. Lyonpo said Bhutan Integrated Taxation System requires extra time to be fully developed. The government was supposed to implement the Bill starting next month. 

Druk Phuensum Tshogpa’s bye-election candidate, Dorji Yuden

30-year-old Dorji Yuden from Pangjakpa under Chhaling Gewog, Monggar is contesting as a candidate of Druk Phuensum Tshogpa for the bye-election scheduled on 29th June. A mother of two, she completed Bachelors of Arts in Media Studies and Dzongkha from Sherubtse College, Kanglung. The common forum and door-to-door campaign kicked off from Drepoong on May 27.  

Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa’s bye-election candidate, Karma Lhamo

As the common forum and door-to-door campaign for the bye-election began from Drepoong Gewog on May 27, 42-year-old Karma Lhamo from Thoshong Goenpa village under Tsakaling Gewog in Monggar is contesting as a candidate of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa. A mother of three holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Canberra in Australia.
