Punakha district court sentenced a man for illicit trafficking of controlled substances

Punakha District Court sentenced a 29-year-old man from Thimphu to nine years in prison for illicit trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

Projected sales from Hydropower to hit all time high.

Sales from the five major hydropower projects reached Nu 3.4bn as of May this year. According to a report by the Royal Monitory Authority, the sales are an increase of over Nu 200 M from the same time, last year. The projects are Basochhu, Dagachhu, Chhukha, Kurichhu, and Tala hydropower plants.

TB screening programme-an effort towards early detection

Bhutan is identified as one of the highest countries with Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB)  in the South-East Asian regions. Last year alone, Bhutan recorded 63 cases. In an effort towards early detection and initiate treatment, the health ministry conducted a three-day tuberculosis screening programme at Clock Tower Square in Thimphu, which ended today.
