BBS fined for flouting rules while recruiting manager

Ministry of Labour and Human Resources has fined Bhutan Broadcasting Service Corporation Nu 11,250 for violating the procedures of Regulation. The ministry says BBS had followed undue procedures while selecting its Manager for Administration and Finance Department.

Action plan to prevent suicide to be implemented

A comprehensive action plan will be implemented, from this month onwards, to prevent suicide in the country. About six Bhutanese died by suicide in a month and an average of 73 suicide cases are reported in a year from 2009-13.

Men sentenced for smuggling marijuana

Monggar District Court sentenced two men to one year and one month imprisonment each for smuggling marijuana. The men, 65-year-old from Lhuentse and 39-year-old from Monggar were arrested in May for possessing 57 pieces of grass hashish weighing about 226 grams. They also had 6 grams of grass cannabis.

31 business licenses cancelled for fronting

The Regional Trade and Industry Office of Samdrup Jongkhar cancelled 31 business licenses for alleged fronting. The cancelled licenses include some from trade sector, a few from service sector and one expatriate license.

PM assures immediate investigation

The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay assured the people of Trongsa that immediate investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of cracks in and around the town. The cracks started appearing from last month.

Series of burglary vex Samdrup Jongkhar’s housing residents
