Japanese government commit US$ 16 M

The Japanese government has committed US$ 16 M for reconstruction of three bridges along National Highway 1 in the country. To this effect, the exchange of notes was signed yesterday in New Delhi between Ambassador of Japan to Bhutan, Takeshi Yagi and Bhutan’s Ambassador to Japan, General Vestop Namgyel.

Inflation at 6.3 percent

After a continuous drop since September last year, Bhutan’s consumer inflation slightly increased to 6.3 percent in February, this year. In the previous month, inflation was recorded at 6.2 percent.

Gomphu Kora festival attracts record-breaking devotees from Arunachal Pradesh

A record-breaking crowd of devotees from the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh attended the annual Gomphu Kora festival in Trashiyangtse, this year. Pilgrims from Tawang, locally known as Moen-Tawang, dominated the crowd. The number, according to the organisers, is the highest this year.

Paro Tshechu begins

Thousands gathered at Paro Rinpung Dzong to witness the first day of Paro Tshechu, today. The first day of the tshechu, performed inside the Dzong, drew a huge crowd of Bhutanese as well as tourists.

Four convicted for illegal census registration

Zhemgang District Court sentenced four men to prison term ranging from one to one and a half years for illegal census registration. The former Gups of Shingkhar, Taula and Phuntsho, Shingkhar’s former Chimi, Yonten and a former BDBL staff of Zhemgang, Norden Drukpa have been convicted for forgery.

Three-day prayer ceremony concludes in Trashigang

His Eminence Dungsey Garab Rinpoche presided over a three-day longevity prayer for His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo in Trashigang. The prayer ceremony concluded yesterday.
The prayers included Dolma Yudok, the reverse battle Puja to remove obstacles and Chimeth Sokthik, the prayers to God of longevity
The prayers were performed at Yesel Choling Dratshang in Rangjung.
