Gelephu’s border gate closed following Assam strike

The Bhutan’s gate in Gelephu, which borders the Indian state of Assam, remained closed, today.

The investigating team is waiting for the final review, even though the findings – of the re-investigation on Ura Middle Secondary School’s Principal – were supposed to be revealed last week.

Completion of Amochu Bridge deferred

The construction of 122-metre long Bailey Suspension bridge over Amochu in Samtse is likely to complete only in March next year. It was supposed to be ready by June this year.

Once complete, the bridge will connect Dophuchen and Duenchhukha gewogs in Samtse.

A concrete Jangchub Chorten on Tamala Pass, near Tingtibi in Zhemgang, was robbed off its Nangtens on Monday. The police say they have found a clue and have intensified the investigation. So far, nine chortens have been robbed in Zhemgang

Man apprehended for possessing tobacco products

A 27-year-old man from Samtse has been apprehended by the Tingtibi police for possessing tobacco products. Police seized around a 100 packets of cigarettes and 68 dozens of chewing tobacco from his house in Tingtbi, following a tip off.

A one-storied house was completely gutted by fire at Gongdue in Monggar, yesterday. A 66-year-old mother was alone at home when the fire started. She escaped unhurt. A source said the fire started from an electric meter box. The family is living in their neighbors’ house at the moment. The Dzongkhag Kidu Office has given then Nu.10, 000 as Gyalpoi Thukso.

Two hospitalized after stabbing each other

A teenager and a man, 23, are recovering at the Gelephu hospital from the stab wounds they sustained following a scuffle.

Two detained for prostitution

A man and a woman of Indian origin, who were detained for prostitution, are still in Phuenstholing custody.The police had caught them red-handed during a raid in one of the massage parlours in Phuentsholing town.

Class XII English paper was leaked: BCSEA

The Bhutan Council for School Examinations and Assessment confirmed the English Paper II for class XII was leaked.

USA’s Ambassador to India calls on PM

The Ambassador of the United States of America to India, Kathleen Stephens and her delegation called on the Prime Minister at the Raven House on Tuesday evening.
