Ineffective solar fencing done away with

The six-kilometre solar fencing, put in place to fend off elephants in Tashichhoeling Gewog in Samtse, has proved to be ineffective. The fencing, which cost Nu.2.5 MN, was removed five months ago.

Come monsoon season, the flooding problem at Shetikhari in Gelegphu will be solved permanently. The Department of Roads is constructing a 100-meter bridge in the area. The bridge, costing over Nu.8 MN, is expected to be completed by July 2015. Shetikhari is located along the Gelegphu-Zhemgang highway. It is about one and a half kilometers from Gelegphu town towards Zhemgang.

The parents of a 24-year-old student, who died by alleged suicide, have lodged a complaint with the police in Wangduephodrang. They suspect foul play behind their son’s death. The deceased was a class 12 student.
