The Member of Parliament from Dramedtse-Ngatshang, Ugyen Wangdi, highlighted about the increasing number of suicide cases of students in the National Assembly, yesterday. He questioned the education minister if measures are put in place to prevent such cases in future.
Bhutan’s first central school to open next year
Forty nine schools in the country will be developed as central schools in the next four years under the School Reform Programme. Yelchen Central School in Pema Gatshel, the country’s first central school, opens from the next academic year.
Ineffective solar fencing done away with
The six-kilometre solar fencing, put in place to fend off elephants in Tashichhoeling Gewog in Samtse, has proved to be ineffective. The fencing, which cost Nu.2.5 MN, was removed five months ago.
Come monsoon season, the flooding problem at Shetikhari in Gelegphu will be solved permanently. The Department of Roads is constructing a 100-meter bridge in the area. The bridge, costing over Nu.8 MN, is expected to be completed by July 2015. Shetikhari is located along the Gelegphu-Zhemgang highway. It is about one and a half kilometers from Gelegphu town towards Zhemgang.
