ACC freezes land transactions of eight individuals

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) froze the land transactions of eight individuals under Thimphu. The move is apparently in connection with the detention of Chang Gup Naku, Chief Executive Officer of Bhutan Telecom Tshewang Gyeltshen, and the National Land Commission’s Legal Head, Karma Jamtsho.

Government land encroachment rampant in Trashigang

Except for Bidung, every other gewog under Trashigang has issues of land encroachment. Many people have either constructed houses or cultivated on government land. There are 159 such cases.

DT members to penalise those not attending meetings

Members at the Dzongkhag Tshogdu in Paro expressed concerns when a few relevant government officials did not turn up for the discussions. A solution was however identified and now those absent in the future meetings will be charged fines.

Zilnon school’s students going the extra mile

The students of Zilnon Namgeylling Primary School in Thimphu will have to come back to school by 4 PM for study hours, starting 1 November.

Automobile workshop razed in Paro

An automobile workshop in Paro town caught fire, this morning. Police report states the incident occurred at around 7:30 AM from a probable electric short circuit.

Bumthang Tshechu begins

The five-day long annual Jakar Tshechu in Bumthang began yesterday. Hundreds of people, including tourists and locals, came to witness the Tshechu in Jakar Dzong. Various cultural programmes and mask dances are being performed.

A pair of adult Black-necked Cranes and a juvenile arrived at Bumdeling in Trashiyangtse around 11:10 AM, today. The cranes come to Bumdeling for winter roosting. They fly back to the Tibetan plateau for summer roosting by the beginning of March. Last year, Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary recorded 112 Black-necked Cranes.

Bhutan ranks 125th in ease of doing business

The ease of doing business in Bhutan has upped by 16 places. A report by the World Bank called, ‘Doing Business 2015’, places Bhutan at 125th position of the 189 countries. Bhutan ranked 141 last year.

The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, met with the Ambassador of Brazil to Bhutan, H.E. Mr. Carlos Duarte this afternoon.
