A Namgay Khanzang Chorten in Langthil Gewog, Trongsa, was robbed off its Nagtens yesterday night. No one knows when the chorten was built. Police are investigating the case. Trongsa Dzongkhag has recorded 9 chortens and 2 Lhakhangs vandalism cases, this year.

Introducing farm machines for high altitudes

In an effort to introduce farming machines at high altitudes, the Agriculture Machinery Centre in Paro demonstrated two farming machines in Paro, today.

Two men were drowned in Dingringgang River at Bjoka in Zhemgang yesterday. Both of them are from Kamati village under Bjoka Gewog. While one of the bodies was fished out, the other is still missing. A search team of 50 people, including locals, gewog and police are searching for the missing man.

A man arrested for forgery in Sarpang

Sarpang police arrested a man last Friday for forging the signature of his friend to withdraw money from the friend’s account. The incident took place on August 6.

A Jangchub Chorten in Sergithang Toed village under Sergithang Gewog in Tsirang was vandalised on Thursday. It’s the only chorten in Sergithang Gewog. No one in the gewog knows when and who built the chorten and also what its nangtens were. It comes at a time when a spate of chorten vandalism in being reported across the country.

Phuentshogling being the main port of entry for smuggling-in drugs and other controlled substances, appeal pamphlets were distributed among general public, taxi drivers and students. The Narcotics Drug Law Enforcement Unit in Phuentshogling says, total of 119 people were arrested for drug related cases this year alone, and 81 cases registered with the court.

Within a year’s time, Royal Bhutan Police arrested over 500 people in connection to drug related crimes. Police in Paro alone arrested around 80 people. To seek public support, RBP launched its nationwide Drugs Appeal Programme in Paro, today. Appeal letters and messages were also read out to hundreds present at the launch.
