Sherzhong’s teachers continue to live in classrooms

Another year of hardships for some teachers of Sherzhong Primary School in Gelegphu has begun. They will have to continue to live in classrooms. The teachers’ quarters, they were supposed to shift in, is still incomplete. The four unit two-storied building was to be completed last year.

PM reiterates the need for GPMS

The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, recently announced that Bhutan will start the Government Performance Management System (GPMS), soon. A steering committee has already been established with Lyonchhen as its chair. A task force has also been set up.

New design brings bridge construction to a standstill

The construction of 115-metre-long suspension bridge over Mangdechhu at Rindigang in Zhemgang has come to a standstill. In fact, the foundation of the bridge, which is almost complete, will be stripped off, to make way for a new design.

Ropeway to the rescue

Early this week, in one of the villages under the Norgaygang Gewog under Samtse Dzongkhag, a technology was changing lives of people. A 980 metre goods-ropeway, a gift from Tarayana Foundation, has now come to the villagers who have lived their entire life carrying goods on their backs.

Pay Commission’s request for time extension granted

The Pay Commission had asked for one month extension to complete the report on the findings of salary revision of the Public Servants. The much awaited report was supposed to be presented by the Finance Minister in the National Assembly, yesterday.

ESP: The needs and thoughts

The discussion on the Economic Stimulus Plan (ESP) in the National Council on Monday saw a mixed reaction from the members. Members were skeptical on how ESP would serve its intended purpose. The members of the National Council recommended sourcing external assistance should be discontinued in future to fulfill election pledges.

Czech Republic’s exhibition opens

An exhibition depicting the culture of Czech Republic is on display in the capital. The opening ceremony was graced by Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Sangay Choden Wangchuck, this morning. The Prime Minister, cabinet ministers and senior officials along with the Czech Republic’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs were also present.

His Majesty the King granted an audience to the students of Sherubtse College in Kanglung just as they began their new academic session.

Imported furniture starts entering Bhutan again

As soon as the Regional Revenue and Customs Office (RRCO) formally lifted the import ban yesterday, furniture worth over Nu.300,000 were imported in two transactions.

Class X result declared

Tandin Wangmo of Luntenzampa Middle Secondary School and Tashi Wangchuk of Bartsham Middle Secondary School, Trashigang topped the Bhutan Certificate of Secondary Education Class X 2013 examination. Both of them scored with 92.40 percent each.
