A Mani Dungdrup recitation has begun in Wangdue Phodrang for the successful reconstruction of the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, and also for the well-being of the King, country, and the people.

Indian Community celebrate India’s 65th Republic day

The Indian Community gathered at the Indian Embassy in Thimphu to celebrate India’s 65th Republic day, earlier today.The celebration began with the hoisting of Indian national flag. The Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, V P Haran read out the President of India’s address to the gathering. In his address, the president said India has witnessed one of the fastest growing economies in the world in the last decade.

Three die in accident

One died on the spot and two others succumbed to injuries after the Maruti van they were traveling in plunged some 80 metres below the road and caught fire. The accident occurred near Tagma village in Zhemgang at around 10 in the morning, yesterday. Tagma is about nine kilometres away from Tingtibi town.

In Zhemgang, the construction of the new dzongkhag court began last year. Over 70 percent of the construction is now complete. The construction of the dzongkhag court is being funded by the Austrian government and is costing almost Nu.29 million. At present, court officials share space with the dzongkhag administration.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the Trashi Yangtse Dzongkhag court was held, yesterday. The High Court Justice, Dasho Sangay Khandu, attended the ceremony. Government received Nu.71 billion as grant, PM informs

The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, said the government will be receiving an additional Nu.71 billion as grant from the International Financial Institutions for 11th Five Year Plan. The budget outlay for 11th Five Year Plan is Nu.213 billion. Lyonchhen was responding to the question posed by the Opposition Leader.

Late Lopon Kinley Gyeltshen cremated

Late Lopon Kinley Gyeltshen was cremated, today, at the Lekshed Jungney Shedra in Punakha. The funeral was presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo and the five Lopons of the Zhung Dratshang. His Holiness and two Lopons presided over the Chenrezi-Sungchoe and the Dorji Lopon along with the other two Lopons, Lam Netens, Khenpos and hundreds of monks performed the Mithrugpa.

Woman dies after swarm of bee sting her
