Bhutan’s first ice cream manufacturing unit inaugurated

The country’s first ice cream manufacturing unit has been inaugurated by in Singyegang village in Tashichhoeling Gewog under Samtse Dzongkhag. The unit is located around 50 kilometres from Samtse town. It has a capacity to produce about 4,500 pieces of packets which will earn about Nu. 90, 000 every day.

Construction of Central Regional Referral Hospital begins

The construction of the much-awaited new Central Regional Referral Hospital in Gelegphu has finally begun. The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction was held, yesterday.

More than a hundred scouts are participating in a two-week leadership programme at the military training centre in Wangdue Phodrang. The scouts are from Punakha, Wangdue, Paro, Haa and Thimphu. The leadership programme is an attempt to revitalise the scouting programme.  The Scouts and Culture Division of the Department of Youth and Sports along with the Royal Bhutan Army have organised the leadership programme.  Introduced in 1996, the school-based scout programme currently has over 20,000 member scouts and about 1000 trained scout leaders.

Old-age chukor mani becomes an issue of safety

A water prayer wheel or chukor mani in Chhoekhor Gewog, Bumthang has become an issue of safety after falling into a state of shabbiness.

Asian Economic Cooperation’s ministerial conference adopts Bangkok Declaration

The Ministerial Conference on Asian Economic Cooperation adopted the Bangkok Declaration. The declaration called for cooperation in four thematic areas of integrated markets, connectivity, regional financial cooperation and cooperation to address shared vulnerabilities and risks.

Joint Judo camp begins

A three-day Joint Judo Training Camp with the Nepal Judo Association began in Thimphu, yesterday. The Nepal and Bhutan Judo Associations will undergo high-level training that will end in a friendly team match, tomorrow.

Choadpa festival seeing waning interest

The Choadpa festival in Zhemgang is seeing waning interest among the younger generation. The older population is, therefore, feeling the need to ensure its continuity by organising it annually. Dakphel under Nangkor Gewog performed the ritual this week.

The fifth Yab Sey Yangphel-style archery tournament started, today, in Samdrup Jongkhar. Twenty two teams are taking part. Besides local teams, there are also teams from Monggar, Trashigang, and Pema Gatshel. The Samdrup Jongkhar Sports Association is organising this tournament to commemorate Royal Wedding, and as a tribute to His Majesty the King.  Two matches will be played daily. The finals are slated for 6thJanuary.

His Majesty receives the World Cup trophy

His Majesty the King received the World Cup trophy at the Banquet Hall, today. His Majesty shared with FIFA, Coca-Cola, and Bhutan Football Federation officials that the experience would make for a great story for his children and grandchildren. Only leaders of state are given the privilege to hold the World Cup Trophy.

His Holiness consecrates a new Lhakhang

His Holiness the Je Khenpo consecrated a newly constructed Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck Choling Lhakhang in Trashigang yesterday. The Lhakhang was constructed to pay tribute to His Majesty the King.
