The Anti-Corruption Commission trained about 20 trainers on Social Accountability and the Scorecard for social investment project programme. The participants, from various agencies, discussed the limitations of the service providers and the beneficiaries and how it could be improved among others.   The participants the Social Accountability and Community Scorecard will benefit the community in delivering quality development activities and also help curb corruption.

Stranded passengers homebound

The passenger bus that was stranded in Bumthang since last Friday, left for Lhuentse, at around 6:30 this morning. Over 25 passengers, including children were stranded in Bumthang for two days after the coaster bus they were travelling in, broke down.

Bhutanese film to be screened at two international film festivals

“The Red Door”, a 15-minute local film, has been selected to be screened at two international film festivals. It will be screened at Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and Fribourg in Switzerland.

A team from the Jimiling Police Training Institute won this year’s Gelegphu league and knockout Yangphel Style open archery tournament. In the final played on Saturday, they defeated team Lhap-jagom and Five Dragons.  The winning team received Nu. 65,000, the first runners-up 50,000, and second runners up Nu.40, 000. The best archer was Gem Tshering from team Mangali from Thimphu.

With the Friends of Police programme proving to be an effective means of curbing crime, Samtenling gewog, and Pelrithang under Gelegphu gewog were put under the watch of Friends of Police, starting Saturday.

The Prime Minister said Meet the People programme is successful as it has given opportunities for people to meet the ministers. He also added that wherever possible they have tried to help. Where it is not possible, Lyonchhen said they have tried to explain the polices and laws to the people.

Overseas employment in full swing

The government’s overseas employment scheme for the youth is in full swing. They are planning to send the youth abroad by next month, according to the Labour Minister, Ngeema Sangay Tshempo.

Two teenagers convicted for murder

The Samtse District Court sentenced a man and two teenagers to imprisonment in connection with a murder of a 17-year-old student of Yoeseltse Middle Secondary School.

RSTA, whose car is it?

There have been mixed reactions from the public with the deadline for transferring vehicle ownership drawing closer. As per the notification issued by the Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA), all vehicle owners will have to transfer their ownership by the end of this month. Now, the RSTA is swamped with people who want to transfer their ownership. Since the notification, more than 900 people have had ownership transferred.

Government to discuss five percent tax on transferring vehicle ownership

The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, said the government needs to discuss the affordability of the five percent tax imposed as property transfer tax while transferring vehicle ownership. Lyonchhen shared this at the Meet the Press session, this afternoon.
