Road construction brings forth tremendous pollution

The 4.2 kilometre bypass road that will shorten the distance between Tingtibi and Gongphu in Zhemgang is mainly being constructed for the upcoming Chamkharchu Hydropower Project in Degala. The road is also expected to benefit the four gewogs of Lower Kheng.

A flurry of construction activities, involving thousands of workers from other dzongkhags, is taking place in Laya Gewog under Gasa dzongkhag.

People of Damji compensated

The people of Damji under Khamaed Gewog in Gasa have been given back their land that was destroyed by the flash flood in June, last year. It had, initially, been decided that the farmers would be compensated for their damaged land.

First Bhutanese fitness model honoured

Yeatoeh Lhamo Penjore, 22, has received a medal of appreciation from the World Bodybuilding and Physique Federation. She has been honoured for being the first Bhutanese woman at the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in Hungary.

Thirty people including civil servants, local leaders and locals are taking part as community representatives of Friends of Police in Pemagatshel. The police and public partnership programme in the Dzongkhag was launched, yesterday. In Tsirang too, the Friends of Police was launched with 30 community representatives, last week. The Friends of Police initiative which was started last year aims to create awareness among the public about the police and fosters partnership between police and citizens.

 

Bhutan Thailand Friendship Association launched

Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay launched the Bhutan Thailand Friendship Association yesterday. Hundreds of Bhutanese and Thais gathered to celebrate the occasion.
