Fuel and LPG price hike in Gelegphu

The price of LPG cylinder, petrol and diesel has increased substantially in Gelegphu as a result of detour the fuel tankers have to make from Thimphu. The tankers haven’t been able to ply straight to Gelegphu from India given a crack that has appeared on Deosiri Bridge in Assam, India.

Wangdue-Tsirang highway opens to traffic

(Update) Wangdue-Tsirang highway is now open to traffic after the boulders were used to temporarily fill the gap created after the road sank. About 100 metres of the stretch of road sank into the ground. The area is located some seven kilometres from Wangdue towards Tsirang. The incident occurred this morning.

 

Price of tickets a deterrent to many football fans?

The King’s Cup which began on July 20 has created immense excitement in the capital. Nine football teams from Bhutan, Bangladesh, India and Nepal have all played at least once in the league, now. There has been no dearth of fans at the Changlimithang stadium as well, although there have been complaints that the tickets are too expensive.

Hundreds of vehicles stranded

About 200 vehicles are stranded after about 100 meters of road sank into the ground. The area is located some seven kilometers from Wangdue towards Tsirang. The incident occurred this morning.

Phuentsholing border gate to remain closed starting today

Strike in Assam affects Bhutanese farmers

The two-day strike in the Indian state of Assam is affecting the farmers who are bringing potatoes for sale at the auction yard in Samdrup Jongkhar. The strike began this morning.

Men booked on suspicion of chorten vandalism

Two men, aged 36 and 26 have been arrested by the Pema Gatshel police on suspicion of chorten vandalism. The suspects are from Yurung Gewog in Pema Gatshel Dzongkhag. The chorten was vandalised on July 19.

The annual open football tournament is underway in Bumthang. The tournament which began on Saturday has eight teams from Bumthang and Trongsa. The final will be played on August 3. It is being organized by the Nazhoen Pelri drop-in center in Bumthang.
