His Holiness appoints Dorjidhen Lam

His Holiness the Je Khenpo today awarded Tashi Khadhar to Lam Phurpa Thinley appointing him as the Lam of Doa-Nga Choling Goenpa. The Goenpa is in Dorjidhen in the Indian State of Bihar.

LPG and Kerosene subsidies to be restored from tomorrow

The subsidies on cooking gas and kerosene will be reinstated with effect from tomorrow. People can now be able to purchase at prices that existed before July 1.

The new UNDP Resident Representative in Bhutan, Ms. Christina Emily Carlson, presented her credentials to the Foreign Minister, Rinzin Dorje today.  Ms. Christina was nominated to the post in January 2013 by the UN Secretary General.  Ms.  Christina has previously served as a senior programme advisor in New-York.  She has also served in various capacities at the UNDP office in the pacific.

Falling boulders pose threat

A huge boulder that rolled off some 60 metres from the ongoing court construction site in Zhemgang landed on the family quarter’s roof at early hours today. The boulder weighing approximately 120 kilogram could have killed them had their roof not been strong to withhold it, say the family members.

Lowest moment of the game?

The two strong teams of Group B, Three Star Club from Nepal and Team BJMC from Bangladesh had an eventful 96 minute match, yesterday. Three Star Club won the match with a goal in the 67th minute. But there was much more to the game.

Man killed after a falling branch hits him

A 55- year-old man from Zhemgang succumbed to injuries after he was hit on the head by a falling branch near Bhutan Gate in Gelegphu, on Monday.

To create awareness among the general public about the importance of trees and to make Bhutan a greener country, the National Environment Commission has initiated a tree plantation project.  Some 100 tree saplings were planted along the highway at Eusuna in Paro.

Lyonchhoen assumes office

The new Prime Minister, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay formally assumed office this morning at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang. Soon after assuming office, Indian ambassador to Bhutan V.P. Haran met the Prime Minister.

The deputy governors and senior officials from SAARC Central Banks attended the 13th SAARC Payments council meeting in the Capital, today.  SAARC Payments Council is a regional payment council formed by the central banks of SAARC countries. The council works towards promoting cooperation among SAARC countries to help each other to reform national payment and settlements systems.

A football coaching camp concluded in Trashigang today. Twenty four football coaches and students between 6 and 12 years of ag attended the five-day camp. The coaching camp was organized by Bhutan Football Federation in Rangjung HSS. So far, BFF has trained around 200 football coaches and over 4000 students in 10 Dzongkhags.
