Cattle die of Black Quarter

A total 16 cattle died this month alone in Nyakhar village under Nangkor Gewog in Zhemgang. The livestock officials said they were suffering from Black Quarter. It is an acute infectious and highly fatal, bacterial disease of cattle.

Social Capital Module for collective economic benefits

The module is prepared by the National Statistical Bureau (NSB). The study’s second stage analysis is complete and a consultative meeting with the stakeholders was held in the capital, today.

PDP’s supporters fined

The Dzongkhag Election Dispute Settlement Body in Pema Gatshel penalised three People’s Democratic Party’s supporters and the Tshogpa of Loongkholom Chiwog in Chhimoong Gewog today. They were fined Nu.3,000 each, for calling a zomdu or meeting in Loongkholom and for distributing visiting cards of the candidate. They are not registered members of the party.

Cycling against drug abuse

Twenty one cyclists took part in an advocacy bicycle rally to raise awareness on ill effects of drug abuse. The rally flagged off from Nazhoen Pelri Centre in Thimphu to end in Paro, yesterday, on the International Day against Drug and Illicit Trafficking.

Men apprehended for rape

Police in Trashigang have apprehended two men, both aged 21, for allegedly raping a 30-year-old married woman. The incident is said to have taken place in Rongthung, under Kanglung Gewog at around 7pm on June 22.

Bhutan’s futsal national team loses

Bhutan’s futsal national team lost to Thailand by 28 goals. The match was held during the 4th Asian indoor and martial arts games at Incheon in Korea, yesterday. Bhutan could manage only one goal.

Seven being interrogated for alleged illegal census registration

Seven people, including five former gups, of Shingkhar Gewog in Zhemgang who served from 1992 to 2010 are being interrogated by the Zhemgang Police for alleged illegal census registration under a household in Wamling village in Shingkhar Gewog.

Gomphu-Panbang Highway opens to traffic

The 44-Kilometre Central-East National Highway between Gomphu to Panbang has been opened to traffic with the inaugural of temporary bailey bridges over the Mangdechu at Pantang and the Rindeygangchu. The project team from the Department of Roads has now made it possible to drive to the Nishoka Bridge at Panbang, the end point of the Gomphu-Panbang Highway.

PDP files a complaint to ECB against DPT

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) against the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT), yesterday. In the letter submitted, PDP has requested the ECB to ask DPT to prove the allegations made against PDP during campaigning.

A battleground called common forum

Instead of making promises, candidates in Wamrong constituency in Trashigang are using the common forums as a battleground and a platform to clarify rumours. Our reporter Pema Namgay has this.
