Google volunteers teaching Bhutanese students

A team of volunteers from Google Asia Pacific are in the country to teach the Bhutanese students the usage of in-depth Google applications. About 100 students from Loselling Middle Secondary School are attending the training at READ Bhutan centre at Changjiji, Thimphu.

1 million US$ grant to Bhutan from Japan

The grant agreement for “PHRD Grant for improving resilience to seismic risk” was signed today in the capital. It was signed between the acting representative of the World Bank to Bhutan, Om Bhandari, and the Finance Secretary Lam Dorji. Under the agreement, the government will receive a grant of over US$ one million (1,285, 500) from the World Bank.

Cigarettes confiscated

The Regional Revenue and Customs office in Phuentsholing confiscated cigarettes worth Nu. 31,000 on Monday morning.  The product was intercepted at the Rinchending check post loaded on one of the public transport buses travelling to Thimphu. It was hidden inside a box used to pack fish.

Doping in sports workshop underway

Forty eight participants from various agencies and schools are attending a two-day workshop on Doping in Sports in  Paro. The workshop began, today.

The Home Ministry has said that the  international border gates will be sealed and movement of people and vehicles through the gates restricted from 6 pm on 30th May to 6pm on 31st May for security reasons.

 

Farmers in Trashigang too are battling to save their maize fields from armyworms. Eleven out of fifteen gewogs in the Dzongkhag are under attack from armyworms and other pests like stem borer.
