2 new species of Rhododendron found

Two new species of Rhododendron have been found in the country. These species- now named the Khochii-var album and Princenamgiae- were discovered by forest officials at Dochula while collecting rhododendron flower specimens for the upcoming Rhododendron Festival, says the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests.

The 12th National Zorig Day was observed today. The Zorig day is observed nationwide to honour skilled workers and to promote a culture of dignity and respect for them. The government aims to produce at least 6000 vocational graduates, annually, beginning this year. His Holiness the Je Khenpo has identified Pel DuekiKhorlo or Kalachakra as the Zorig deity.

Bhutanese voters looking for change?

Bhutanese voters voted for new candidates over the former National Council members. Out of 14 former National Council members, only six of them were re-elected.

Less than half of Bhutanese voters exercised franchise

The voter turnout for National Council election this year was at 45.16 percent, less than eight percent as compared to 2007 NC elections. This means less than half of Bhutanese voters exercised their franchise to elect 20 Councillors.

Not a single woman gets elected

Not a single woman made it to the National Council seat yesterday even through more than half of the electorates were women in yesterday’s election.
