Water conflict rears its ugly head in Monggar

People of Bikhar and Wongkhar of Dremitse Gewog in Monggar are infuriated after some people of Narang, including gewog officials, damaged their drinking water pipes. They want the authorities to take stern actions against them for the act, they describe as criminal.

The Bureau of Law and Order under the home ministry is conducting a six day refresher course in Phuentsholing on how to handle explosive blasters. The course is to ensure that people are well trained and certified for the task.  

BoB and RICB opened their branch offices in Gasa, today. BOB has 28 branch offices and RICB, 27 branch offices with the inclusion of Gasa.

Irregularities in domestic airport construction: RAA draft report

The private newspaper, the Bhutanese, says at least 50 percent of Nu. 435 million that was spent on the construction of the three domestic airports in the country have been lost in illegal over-payment or have been wasted through avoidable expenditure.

Open Air Prison for ‘good prisoners’

A batch of prisoners at Chamgang was sent to the Euta Goenpa in Paro, today, to serve their remaining terms renovating the Goenpa. These prisoners have been moved to an ‘open air prison’ for exemplary behaviour.

Gewog Zomdus in full swing in Samdrup Jongkhar

The Gewog Zomdus for the nomination of candidates for the upcoming National Council elections are in full swing in Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag. The first Zomdu was held last Saturday in Dewathang Gewog. It was followed by another Zomdu in Phuntshothang Gewog under Samdrupcholing Dungkhag, yesterday.

Namgyel, signed the Grant Contracts on 'The Project for Construction of Hostels for Students at Dungna Lower Secondary School in Chhukha Dzongkhag' and 'The Project for Supply of Fire Trucks in Lhuentse and Pemagatshel' under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects with the Ambassador of Japan to Bhutan, Takeshi Yagi.

Former councillor loses

The former National Council Representative of Paro, Ugyen Tshering, lost to a newcomer, Sonam Wangchuk, 25, by 65 percent of the total votes cast. Seven hundred and ninety eight voters from Dop-Shari Gewog had turned up today from a total of 1,585 eligible voter to nominate their candidate for the National Council election.
