Damaged Bridge in Trongsa restored

The Dzongkhalum Bridge in Trongsa which was damaged earlier this month, after a trailer carrying a crane plied over the bridge has been restored. The traffic for the light vehicles opened on Sunday.

Labour ministry’s action plan to gainfully employ graduates

Over 2,500 university graduates are estimated to be seeking employment in the labour market currently. At a press conference today, the labour minister, Dorji Wangdi, said the labour ministry, in order to achieve the objective of providing gainful employment, has drafted an Action Plan for Full Employment of University Graduates.

Accused wife murderer arrested at Longtey

A 50-year-old man, who was on the run, after allegedly murdering his wife in Wangduephodrang has been arrested. According to our Wangdue Bureau Correspondent, Kinzang Thinley, the accused was caught by the village volunteers at Longtey in Sephu on Saturday. They had then handed him over to the police.

Ped-Day circular on breastfeeding mothers backfires in Monggar

Out of 40 teachers in Monggar Lower Secondary School, 10 of them are breastfeeding mothers which means a quarter of the teaching staff will take-off on Pedestrian day if the circular is followed. The cabinet secretariat had issued a recently circular which states that all breastfeeding working mothers can work from home on the Pedestrian Day. But none of these mothers have been allowed to stay away from school.

A book on ‘finding joy’ launched

Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Tshering Pem Wangchuck, launched a book named ‘Living Fully: Finding joy in every breath’, yesterday. The book is authored by His Eminence, Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche, a renowned Tibetan Buddhist scholar.

Bhutanese artists to showcase their talents in Kuwait

Bhutan will showcase its culture, performing arts, crafts, paintings and weaving for three days in Kuwait. The exhibition starts tomorrow. This is the first time Bhutan is taking part in the cultural exhibition in the State of Kuwait. Some 23 Bhutanese dancers, cultural officer, experts from the agriculture and environment will take part in the programme.

Man dies in accident

A man in his twenties died on the spot when the Maruti car he was travelling in veered off road and fell about 350 metres below the road in Trongsa. The accident took place about three kilometres away from Trongsa town at 10:30 last night.

Fire destroys two houses

Two traditional houses were damaged in a fire in Korphu village in Trongsa. Both the houses were two storied. The fire has completely gutted one of the houses and partially damaged the other.

Bangladesh golfer wins Bhutan Amateur Open Golf Championship

More than 40 golfers from Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal and India took part in the Bhutan Amateur Open Golf Championship. His Royal Highness, Prince Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, graced the closing ceremony, yesterday.
