His Majesty reviews security situation along southern borders

His Majesty the King was in Gelephu to review the security situation along the southern borders.  His Majesty arrived in Gelephu on the July 14 . On July 15, His Majesty made detailed tours of all areas important to the security of the people. His Majesty visited army camps and the headquarters of Wing IX besides security installations and observation posts in Jigmeling, Bhur, Dekiling and Gawathang areas.

Bhutanese woman shooter leaves for Olympic

Kunzang Choden, who is competing in the 10m air rifle shooting event on the July 28 in this year’s Olympic left for London today. Her coach, Dorji Phurba, is accompanying her. They will arrive in London on July 22.

Pregnant woman battered

Earlier this month, police in Bumthang detained two sisters for allegedly beating a five months pregnant woman. The incident took place in one of the saloons at Chamkhar town.

Aspiring political parties gearing for registration

The upcoming political parties are gearing towards requirements for the registration with the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB). Currently there are four emerging political parties. They are Bhutan Kuen-Ngyam Party, Druk Chirwang Tshogpa, Druk Me-Ser Tshogpa and Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa.

Gelephu lacks recreational facilities

Although a class A thromde, Gelephu lacks recreational facilities. The few that it has are the sporting facility. But even those are underutilised.

Recruitment and selection regulation launched

The Labour and Human Resources ministry launched the recruitment and selection regulation today in the capital. The purpose of the regulation is to ensure a uniform system for transparent and effective employment process. It will also ensure recruitment of the right person with transparency, fairness and merit based process, free of any discrimination.

Mitigation of Thorthomi Lake begins

The mitigation works of Thorthomi Lake has begun once again. In this working session, the lake is to be reduced by 1.32 meters to meet the target. In the last three working sessions, the lake has been reduced by 3.86 metres, after the mitigation work first began in 2008.

To uplift the livelihoods of rural communities the government has prioritised a community based ecotourism programme in the current five year plan. Community based ecotourism programme is a tourism related activities that ensures direct financial benefits to the rural communities.

Roadblocks poses problem in Samtse

A week already and the roadblocks between Samtse and Dorokha Dungkhag are yet to be cleared. The major road blocks are at Thumkay, Yabala and Basanty under Dorokha Dungkhag.
