Students from Japan on exchange programme

Seven students from Handa city, Japan arrived in the capital for the Handa- Bhutan exchange programme. The main objective of the exchange programme is to strengthen the friendship between the two countries and promote exchange of culture and traditions.

His Majesty grants land Kidu in Wangduephodrang

His Majesty the King granted more than 7,600 acres of excess land, including Chuzing, as Kidu to the people of Wangduephodrang today. Granting audience to 350 people comprising of Dzongkhag officials, Local Government representatives, retired public officials, retired military personnel and village elders His Majesty said that the excess land cost shall also be waived. His Majesty also said those who have already paid the cost shall be reimbursed.

PM questions PDP failure to meet the deadline

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, should be disqualified from the next parliamentary elections for not meeting the deadline to clear-off their party debt. That was the message that the Prime Minister was passing on to the journalists during the Meet the Press session this afternoon.

Trongsa-Zhemgang highway blocked again

Falling boulders and fresh mudslides last night have again caused blocks at Reotala on the Trongsa- Zhemgang highway. Reotala is about 22 kilometres from Zhemgang towards Trongsa. It is a major landslide prone area on the highway.

His Majesty appoints Dzongdags

His Majesty the King today appointed Dzongdags of four Dzongkhags at the Tashichhodzong. Appointing as the Dzongdag of Tsirang, Ngawang Pem, becomes the first woman Dzongdag. Pemba Wangchuk is appointed Dzongdag of Chhukha. Tshewang Rinzin is appointed Dzongdag of Trongsa. Dawala was appointed Dzongdag of Sarpang.

Missing boy fished out dead

The body of the 15-year-old boy who went missing seven days ago in Kurichu in Monggar was taken out from the reservoir of the Kurichu Hydropower plant yesterday.

Lyonchhoen extends felicitations to India’s new president

The Prime Minister Jigmi Y. Thinley on behalf of the government and the people, extended greetings and felicitations to India’s newly elected President, Pranab Mukherjee. Pranab Mukherjee, a veteran of the ruling Congress Party, was elected by members of the national and state parliaments on Sunday.

Cordycep fetches highest price ever

Cordycep or Yartsa Guenbup fetched a maximum price this year as compared to previous years.  A kilogram of cordycep was sold for Nu. 12,20,000. Last year, the highest a kilogram of cordycep fetched, was Nu. 5,00,000.

Gelephu Thromde to implement waste management rule

The Gelephu Thromde will be implementing the waste management and prevention rules and regulations from August 1. Anybody found littering the town will be imposed fine.

Bhutanese Olympic team receives warm welcome

The Bhutanese participants in London Olympics were officially welcomed to the Olympic Village by the Mayor of the Village in a lively and colourful ceremony. The Bhutanese Flag was raised, and the National Anthem played.
